CHP CASE STUDIES

Current National CHP Project Spotlight

Fall 2005

Fresh Energy Ideas Found at A&P Fresh Market. In December 2004, the new A&P Fresh Market in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., opened with the latest energy efficient technology from UTC Power, a unit of United Technologies Corporation. Full story>>>

Previous National CHP Project Spotlights

Summer/Fall 2004

Cummins CHP system delivers energy solutions, economic success and environmental responsibility for animal feed supplier. Western Milling, located in the San Joaquin Valley in CA, produces a full range of animal feed supplies and relies a CHP system based on a PowerCommand QSV91G lean-burn natural gas reciprocating engine generator for affordable power and redundancy.

Winter 2003-2004

Solar Turbines CHP Installation gives Critical Power Reliability (CPR) to Montefiore Medical Center through '03 Blackout. Montefiore Hospitalwas the only New York City Hospital to stay up and running the first night of the blackout, thanks to the Solar Turbines Taurus 60 genset driving their CHP system.

September/October 2003

Franciscan Sisters' CHP Installation with Turbosteam Corp. - 150 kW and 100 kW steam turbine generators drive a CHP system that provides heat and power to a convent, university, and medical center in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

July/August 2003

Raley's CHP Installation by Hess Microgen - Two 200 kW reciprocating engines drive a CHP system at a Raley's Supermarket in Fairfield, CA with considerable economic and environmental benefits.

Additional Sites with CHP Case Studies

>Distributed Energy Case Study Database Hundreds of case studies can be found in the DE Case Study Database, which is searchable by project name, sector, subsector, state, prime mover (DG type), CHP application, system size, etc. Once a sector (e.g. industrial) is chosen, a list of North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) subsectors (e.g. food processing, metal casting, chemical, etc.) pops up for cross referencing to the this market sector classification system.

>The Midwest CHP Application Center has dozens of case studies on hospitals, schools/universities, industry, and municipalities

>NYSERDA has a collection of CHP case studies including are projects using turbines, engines, and fuel cells to benefit a variety of end users, such as hospitals, paper mills, building complexes, etc.
