In 2004, Scott Castelaz, a friend and leader for CHP, passed away. Scott was a member of the USCHPA Executive Committee and a Vice President of Encorp. The USCHPA established a memorial scholarship fund in honor of Scott that serves as a legacy to his meaningful and passionate work in combined heat and power. The Scott A. Castelaz Scholarship Fund helps spark the minds of young engineering and law students and is administered by the USCHPA with Scott's brothers, Dean and Jeff, actively involved. The first group of Castelaz Scholars attended the 2005 CHP Policy Summit. A number of them have entered the CHP field and most are continuing their formal education in distributed energy.
Scholarships are provided to deserving students who wish to attend the annual CHP Policy Summit and the CHP Roadmap Workshop. Scholars are provided with registration to the conference and, as available and needed, support towards travel and lodging expenses.
